the EU doesn't actually take away ANY national sovereignty
because it has no enforcement apparatus (eg Police). EU laws have supremacy over British law in Britain because we passed a British law when we joined saying that it would. A law we could repeal. As we could leave the EU. The EU couldn't stop us and therefore we actually retain all our sovereignty. We are not forced into the EU, we are in only because we CHOOSE to be. If we had really lost our sovereignty UKIP wouldn't be able to argue for us to leave because we would have lost the ability to do so. We do not give up sovereignty to the EU, we merely pool it with that of other countries to extend it (we could stop a French power station sending polluting fumes over the S of England if it happened using EU laws for instance - if we only had our own laws we'd be powerless in that situation)
