globalisation demands it. If European countries don't act together they will have no influence in world terms. The only winners by us not acting together are the US and China (and maybe India soon). Events will eventually force even the public to realise this but unbtil then they are happy to try and pretend globalisation doesn't exist and they can make everything just like it was. That is their democratic right and they are entitled to exercise it. But they will be dragged (probably kicking and screaming) back to reality one day...
