Not sure about that - the EU at its heart is a neo-liberal trading block

if most governments in Europe were socialist and implemented socialist principles, then it wouldn't really serve any purpose.

The interesting thing, as I mentioned the other day, is how the view is so different in different countries. In Spain, for example, the case for leaving the EU is nearly all from the left, and has huge popular support from the young and the working classes; while the older generations and the right wing are in favour of the EU. But that is probably because the Spanish don't care about immigration, they are much more acutely aware of the economic doctrine of the EU.

I guess the UK, at least at this moment in time, is generally a very right wing, conservative society.
