Good well reasoned post

Couple of additional points:
On ‘having control’ in a global economy I understand the EU has rules coming in on the use and transparency of tax havens, starting April. I won’t go as far as some conspiracy theorists to link this to the enthusiasm for leaving on March 29th, but it is true that several prominent Brexit supporters have close financial interests in tax havens. As with the Google, Microsoft, Apple & facebook fines & push backs, it’s only a large cohesive trading block that can do this - even an economy the size of the UK’s would struggle to do this alone.

Also agree with the ‘left behind’ and elites argument, it’s ironic that most of the economic & social damage in those communities has come from the economic policies of the wealthy financial elites that back leave. True, they haven’t received enough attention & support - and some of the support they do have has been misdirected, but it’s been the problems lay at the door of the industrial & economic policies that have caused them.

And sclerotic bureaucracy - I think it was you pointed out that for all that is a fair accusation, the size of the EU bureaucracy is around 10% of the UK’s. General moans about ‘red tape’ & ‘health & safety gone mad’ all too easily undermine and can lead to the removal of useful protections (e.g workers rights) that the wealthy financial elites are keen to encourage ..... my opinion.
