Define “over-perform”

It’s a subjective term and dependent on whose expectations. Personally I think it’s just interview speak and as meaningless as they ever are. Either platitudes or quasi motivational drivel: Lambert’s “they boys need a hand”, Hughton, “they have players who can hurt you”, Daniel being hungry for topics and coffee and cake in his living room. (Farke’s were the best, to be fair.)

Poor old / young Thorup seemed to have lost motivation, first the team’s and then his own. I suspect he was the victim of a personality clash with one or more of the players, who can be difficult to manage if they get the rest (or a significant number) of the squad against you. It’s easier to blame the results and sack the manager and attract a new one, rather than admit that this is a difficult group, poorly matched and recruited who nevertheless are all on contract.
