I agree with you on the publicity/naming of the accused point

I (thankfully) have no experience of being tried in the crown court and have no first hand experience of whether the CPS generally get it right or are a complete liability when it comes to exercising their judgments but I am genuinely surprised if it is the case that serious sexual offences are regularly prosecuted solely on the basis of one persons word against another, especially when the offences are so historic.
