in the promotion year Drury was the captain but Malky was the on-field leader. Leaders like Malky (and, say John Terry) will be leaders on the pitch whether they are made captain or not. Similarly the likes of Flem and Drury will never be leaders even if you give them an armband. Who is officially captain is a total irrelevance - it's just a PR job.
