For the sake of 'entertainment'.

We're all at the mercy of luck and the moneymen now.

With regard to the relative popularity of Norwich /Ipswich. I'm in my early forties. I don't remember Ipswich being successful. I only vaguely recall us winning the Cup in the mid eighties and started following Norwich the following season in division 2.

As such, in my lifetime I'd say neither of us fall in the category of 'big' clubs.

More people my age seem to have a base awareness of us from beating Bayern Munich on terrestrial TV.

I knew that Ipswich were in the uefa Cup about a decade later. Doesn't seem to have entered the public consciousness in the same way. Just looked it up on wiki. Had forgotten that they beat inter on one leg.

Dad truth is that for most people, if clubs aren't in the Prem they don't exist. This puts us a bit ahead of our rivals in terms of recent awareness.
It's getting on for twenty years since they were in the top flight. That means they aren't on anyone's football radar below the age of mid twenties.

The value of building a strong fan base should never be underestimated and the years of shipping kids in from local schools and encouraging kids for a quid, mean that you see far more kids in Norwich tops in Norwich than, for example, Cardiff City fans here.

It's that neglected fan base that I'd worry about if I was them.

But really, football as a competition for clubs our size is now a question of resetting expectations. We could end up knackered like them quite easily. There is a real risk they could continue to spiral down too...
