The £10m -£25m value is the hardest to get right

So many players in that range that don’t work out, so many that look good overseas but don’t cut it in the PL.

Our problem I think is that when we sign a player for that kind of cash, it’s a lot for us and we’re banking on them being the business. The reality is that some might be, many won’t be. As it is when signing players for relative peanuts too.

Brentford have signed a lot more players than us, some have worked out brilliantly, others less so, but they’ve increased their chances by signing a lot of players.

That’s just where we are as a club at the moment though. We need to get very lucky with signings to progress to a higher level. We got extremely lucky with Pukki and Buendia, but even they weren’t enough in isolation. For the club to “progress”, an owner with more cash is the only real answer, but it’s hardly a guarantee.

So yeah, I totally agree our signings weren’t good enough, but it’s a tough business to get right.
