Emi wanted to leave to the previous season.

If you recall him and Cantwell were dropped at the start of that season then re-integrated back in. This was after talks were held in which an agreement was made for Emi to stay to help us get back up then he could be sold if a decent offer came in.
If we'd sold him back then we may never have got promoted in the first place and we would never have got anywhere near £35m for him.
