My NFL team is in the process of being sold. It'll be sold for something north of $3.5 BILLION.

The only thing that is stopping football clubs rising to that level is "sporting merit" and this quaint notion of needing to maintain a football pyramid and the fiction that any club can compete at the top level.

Which is why it is simply a question of how & when elite level football becomes a closed shop with no relegation: there is no *if*.
