it's probably actually better for consumers for Govt to prop up Bulb financially as it socialises the losses across the entire UK from general tax revenues rather than being absorbed by the energy companies and passed back to households directly via our bills

They've missed the boat now but this could have been mitigate had they permitted an emergency price cap adjustment.

eg my own provider was reasonably well hedged for the immediate future but was sunk because there is no prospect of returning to profitability in the near term due to the cap so their funder pulled the plug.
