Surely you just address that by saying that any Stormont vote is a simple majority?

On this issue.

This is what annoys me about this whole Brexit process.

Every time a proposal is put forward its basically declared completely unacceptable by all and sundry on the basis of one provision or one element of it. In any normal negotiation you then take that forward and say fine well looks like we have the broad basis of a deal we can d here but we need to get our heads together and come up with some tweaks to x and y.

Until now that sort of approach seems to have been pointedly missing on the Irish backstop issue. To be fair though some comments from the Irish government this morning are more along those lines and perhaps provide some scope for optimism that they can get around the table and thrash something out. Bertie Ahern spoke very well on this earlier ion the radio saying more or less than he felt they could take what is on the table and turn it into something they could all live with if they have intensive talks and everyone really wants to agree a deal.
