Perhaps it's an over-estimate, perhaps not. But the fact is we are not skint. Not even close. We've just decided to invest our money in a long term plan, rather than trying to more immediately take advantage of the quality players we still have this season.

Who knows if it's the correct approach, but to dismiss Jim's opinion out of hand is ridiculous. Because his approach of gambling a bit on promotion has worked for many clubs in the past - including ours (Huckerby & Crouch / Lambert period / Neil's promotion season).

Of course, if it failed there would have to be an even greater overhaul in the summer, which could set us back more. But no-one can say with anything approaching certainty whether one approach or the other would be the best one.

The only thing we can say is that this season has been pretty dull and uneventful. Only the next few years will really tell us whether or not it has been a good or bad one.
