Lots of good points. It’s a complicated debate.

For what it’s worth my view is that most owners start out with the best intentions. They stick some money in the club and if it works (I.e they move the club to a higher level) then happy days. But if it doesn’t work, or works for a bit then turns south, then most owners in that situation announce that they’re done, they’re not putting any more of their money in, the club now needs to be self sustaining.

That’s when the risk of permanent downward spiral begins. It’s easy to list the clubs that have experienced this, including our friends in Suffolk.

There of course owners with a bottomless pit of cash, but they are like hens teeth.

I can see lots of reasons to be very nervous. Blackburn, Bolton, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Forest, Ipswich. Long list. But then I also see us getting left behind next year without parachute payments.

Glad I don’t have to decide.
