tbf it's probably my continual amazement that

corporates plow so much money into watching football

(although I guess it's probably more PL football and bringing clients along to the big boys. My old firm was always giving away its tickets to Bristol City's championship games against the also rans and, err, Norwich., Which was handy for me.)
