Some excellent points, however

As a trained teacher who now works in the private sector I would have more respect for the whole state idea if there was better accountability. I'm not saying private does it better however the devilish thing about the market it it filters out the bad. Thats why the Tories want it.

Teachers today seem to believe that unless you have a degree you are not worthy of the post. That is plainly rubbish. The training I received did not require a degree and to honest the best training would be in avoid conflict and social skills with young adults. You don't get that in a a degree. I now work with computers and I know of many engineers who are amazing at developing software with very little formal education who would be amazing at teaching those skills to the young.

Bad teachers never get sacked. They have fought valiantly for many years to avoid any kind of performance measurement especially in relation to pay. It doesn't happen in the real world where the majority don't get a pay rise every year and cant really expect one either.
My main point I suppose is that all the frothing about Grammars seems to ignore the sorry state the supposed Comprehensive miracle is. I have been there and taught in them. It isn't the answer either.
