system restore is switched on automatically

I'd leave it on, though, hardly takes up any disk space (3.5gb on mine)

To check, or turn it off - right click computer, properties, system protection - you can turn it off using configure there.

As for your 2tb external - set it to backup your stuffb(control panel, backup or restore your files)
