I can see his point....

his players come back injured and because of this the team underperforms, results go against us, fans turn and who ends up getting sacked? Not Nigel Worthington!

As much as I think the same about it being a great honour for a player to represent his country (and I wish more players would think this way) I think you'd be hard pressed to find any club manager, who after seeing one of his key first team players come back from an International injured, just shrug his shoulders and not be even a little pissed off about it.
