...and he was available. His agent at the time (may still be) was Wayne Lindsay I believe - who Keegan fell out with over negotiations with Etuhu and ended up with his move to Preston.

It would have been the agent that declared the demands, and if we're desperate for a replacement for Francis and there appears to be one available, why not take on a release clause that's over double what you're paying for a player?
