if we had put the clause in his contract a few weeks ago I could understand your annoyance, but you can't transpose today's particular circumstances back to the time when we signed him when the contract was drawn up. Hindsight is a wonderul thing.

If we had been told AT THE TIME that we had paid £600k for him but there was a £1.5m release clause the overwhelming majority on here would have been moaning purely about paying as much as £600k (in fact at the time they were) for him. I guarantee no-one would have been moaning about the release clause.
