To me, the best comedy should subvert

Thus, I don't care for the likes of Manning as they reinforced (and fed) standard predjudices of the time or just ripped the piss out of easy targets (also why I've always hated things like Candid Camera). The alternative comedians of the lates 70s (and Viz for that matter) (following in the wake of and influenced by punk) turned the tables and challenged what was previously acceptable. [Leave aside that they descended into self-parody and fart jokes ...]

So far as Hamburger is concerned, while one can claim that he's subverting the notion of the 70s comedian (and I *do* get that); it's actually 30 years too late. He would have been genuinely funny, I think, in about 1978. I fear that most people will laugh with him rather than at him. On top of that, even if one accepts the parody argument, I think it's a pretty limited joke that quickly wears thin.
