Which is the essence of the debate

It is not that, if we find a joke about a well known s**t shoveller and a extinct big cat side splittingly humorous but whether indeed the joker telling it can do so by creating an obnoxious persona to absorb the guilt we feel from our own repressed prejudices and make us feel superior in doing so?
