Yes, but Zidane ended up carrying a really unfancied team all the way to the final.

His performance against Brazil was incredible, he was the main reason France beat Spain, and yes of course he ended the final in disgrace, but he still scored a penalty and had a very good game against a midfield with the ability and determination to completely shackle him.

Zidane's name, for both the wrong and right reasons, looms large over this World Cup and for me it is impossible to leave him out of any representative team.
