You know what I think made it a poor tour?

And to be honest, I didn’t think it was *that* poor, overall, but definitely below expectations. In no particular order:

As you say, the lack of preparation. A pointless white ball tour of New Zealand following a strenuous, but brilliant, test series against India. That’s not Bazball, that’s the ECB, and to a lesser extent Australia, for not scheduling some tour games.

Not focussing on fielding. That’s a planning issue, for me, but it hadn’t been a weakness previously. You can’t foresee everything.

The pitches. This current practice of home teams preparing pitches to suit themselves has to stop. Why the surprise at Melbourne when it had already happened at Perth? Having a significant part of the match decided on the toss of a coin is ridiculous and antiquated enough, why add pitch doctoring? I’d have the toss done before the first match, the winner would choose bat or bowl for that game and subsequently it would alternate.

Media hysteria, which I’ve already mentioned. TNT Sports joining the circus only increases the need to shout louder for attention.
