There are other ways of looking at it

I know your opinion, but…

Bowling injuries
Conditions (pitches, d/n test, etc)
Australia not being past it (as the British press widely claimed in advance, ignoring our own evidence of Broad and Anderson in the recent past)

Not wishing to excuse the poor preparation and mistakes that were definitely made, although the Australians didn’t help much there, but the British media, Agnew included, got it wrong before the series started and are now looking for scapegoats. Their hysteria is overreacting and self-excusing.

Remember the old sport mantra - things are never as bad, or as good, as you think. The England team is in a much better place than 4 years ago, dismantling it all now because an old lag like Agnew says “heads must roll” would be foolish.

Mind, it’s not like they haven’t done foolish before, both the MCC and the British cricket press and supporters, so I’ll just bow out here with the low expectations I have grown accustomed to.
