Why do you keep quoting league position. That's a single raw data point. it tells you

where a team is, not why.

If a team wants to understand why they are in that position, and more importantly how to improve, they need metrics that measure the factors driving performance.

Metrics aren’t perfect, but when tracked consistently, they reveal patterns. Think of it like inflation data. The “basket” of goods and services usedisn’t exact, but measured the same way over time, it’s a reliable indicator of economic trends.

xG works the same way, it’s a proxy for performance quality. Also as I’ve stressed it shouldn’t be used in isolation or to justify performance in a single game. People who do that don’t understand statistical analysis.

If I can't convince you then the fact that every professional club on the planet uses it (along with dozens of other metrics), that should tell you something about its value if used correctly.
