I think the rich benefactor model may be kind of dying out at this level

It is so hard to break into the Prem 'club' now and costs so much money that getting promoted to the Prem is now seen almost as much as a source of financial problems (if you make any vaguely serious attempt to stay up) rather than a solution to them. Lots of EFL clubs have supposedly loaded benefactors but none of them are really throwing cash around these days.
Stricter FFP enforcement plays a part too, as the examples of Derby, Sheff Wed and Reading (clubs whose owners spent more than they should have been able to afford) illustrate.
A rich benefactor now might stop you going bust but won't enable you to go into Hey Big Spender mode
