to slate the successful.

Really not sure that's true anymore (if ever).

The successful risktakers seem to me to be often fetishised, with some degree of ignoring the element of luck that got them there (you make that point yourself).

It'd be interesting to know if the risktakers who win balance out societywise with the risktakers who flop. Is it all just a form of gambling? And is that gambling often played with other people's money? (increasingly, the public's, money).

Politicians need to follow the rules they impose and enforce on others. Hard to see this as controversial.
