And only do this in the last 5 or 10 minutes plus during any added time. Obviously that wouldn't stop s**thousery for the preceding 10 (or sometimes even 20) minutes but the ref can choose to add time if it is a significant delay.

So, I would say before the last 5 or 10 minutes as it is, and any obvious significant time wasting results in a yellow. Within that last 5 or 10 (plus stoppage time), clock stops on every injury. But then you'd have to stop dishing out yellows.

Downside of doing it at all is if a player on the team who wants the final whistle ASAP gets a tweak (e.g. hamstring) he might be tempted to carry on to avoid the clock stopping which could lead to a more serious injury (or a mistake giving the opponent a chance or goal).
