I don't think that because Farke had time it necessarily follows
that Smith should get time too.
There's lots of context and that's not just around rose tinted glasses. I remember chatting to disgruntled fans at the time of his first season and while there were a lot of complaints that what we were doing was boring, you could see that there was a plan and a project in place and you could see the impact that he was having (for the positive) on the younger players and the club.
I don't find it surprising that people are drawing comparisons between Smith and Farke on that kind of front *because* that's the whole point of the continuity of having a director of football and a club ethos.
Many of the discussions hinge around moving away from Farkeball (which had some success), but not really a clear view (or a clearly described view of where we're heading).
Not calling for him to be sacked, but cannot imagine the approach under Knudsen, for example, would be anything like what we've done. And, in view of how erudite Farke was, I'd expect someone at the club to be explaining how we're looking to evolve the playing style to take us forward under the new coach.
And the concern that whatever style we're shooting for seems to take us away from where the natural skillsets of our proven players lie, is a legit cause of concern.
Just in my opinion, natch.
