Never thought I was much of a heavy drinker but
I've always been a social drinker.
With one of my side roles I had to run alcohol awareness sessions at work and took the questionnaire which flagged me as a binge drinker (not drinking much during the week, on the weekend would steadily drink, while out from 6pm ish well into the early hours - starting off on beer, then moving on to whisky when too full of fluid). Main thing would be that I'd never be out of control or unaware, but over that 12 hour period I would have taken on a lot of alcohol.
Then the rest of the week I'd be back to single parenting and wouldn't really drink at all.
As a social drinker, during the pandemic I've dropped to drinking barely anything at all - there's a place down the road sells really nice craft beers and I have definitely moved into having less, but better quality, or maybe more interesting...? But yep, I'll have a sociable drink (even if it's catching up on Zoom) but never enjoyed drinking alone - can't imagine drinking in front of the kid, even now they're older.
Booze is a weird thing, and very individual. My best mate has been teetotal for quite a few years now, and I generally join him in some of the alcohol free ones - seeking out unusual ones for us to try at said shop (hence the discussion on AF beers last week on here sometime).
If it all disappeared tomorrow, I don't think I'd miss it, but I'd need to find another activity to replace it on the social side.
Not coffee - my caffiene addiction in my early 20s properly f*cked me up.
