I go through periods of abstinence
and in them don't really want a drink and feel fine. Then I'll have a beer out or a glass of wine and will probably drink each day for a few days, but never much these days and nothing like I used to, then abstain again for several days. I don't put any structure on it, I just go with the flow.
There have definitely been long periods where my relationship with alcohol was very unhealthy and I don't see myself ever going back to that; I still like a few beers and I don't have "off days" or "off weeks" but I don't think I ever drink more than 2-3 days in a week and quite often less than that these days.
It's also been interesting noting the effect just a single pint of beer has on me. I can definitely feel it, though I'm obviously nowhere near drunk, and it's the feeling an hour or two afterwards that's "not great" and in the past I'd probably have been drinking more to stay topped up.
