Part of the problem

Is that the consequences of some choices are more measurable than those of others. It's quite easy to know excess deaths, but not easy to measure mental impacts or the costs of a damaged education. So I suspect politicians are more drawn to the measurable 'wins' than the immeasurable (esp if long term or prospective) which is a problem
