Surely there’s a genuine case to be made for massaging his ego a bit and elevating him up to be our genuine talisman?

Bailey’s Athletic piece reckons his salary rose to £35,000 with us in the Premier League and Villa were offering him £80,000 - for the sake of c.£2,500,000 a year we could have matched that.

For those that’ll suggest it’d create unrest in the camp, surely it happens at many other clubs (Zara on £150,000 a week at Palace for example) and I reckon you’d be hard pressed to find anyone that’d honestly complain he was still in the side.
