I don't think the government seriously consider herd immunity to be an option. The plan was to enforce local lockdown to subdue levels of infection until a vaccine was found. Compliance has been so poor that hasn't worked out.

I imagine we will have another nationwide lockdown similar to France, opening up in time for Christmas.

I also view the AZ vaccine as likely to be approved in late November or early December.
