Loss of anchor stores a big problem, eg John Lewis in intu Watford
Similar effect in Southampton where the standalone Debenhams in the city centre is now permanently closed. When I was a kid it was advertised (as Edwin Jones) on the buses and was a destination in its own right but like most department stores has had a long decline.
