Great article.

What I glean from it is that it depends how much you care about people who were brought up on the two space rule (as it had minimal impact either way on everyone else).

Referring to my other answer, the only thing I would say is that most publishing packages default/expect one space and that, with my editing hat on, I'm beggared if I'm going to go through and reformat articles only for the design and print package (or team) to muck it up as its pieced together.
