As to answer your question. When this first hit we were totally unprepared in terms of equipment (PPE, ventilators ect ect ) , staff (actual staff numbers and staff training) and a widespread testing system.
Its clear we are now better prepared in those areas.
The heard immunity models take into account things like reasonable social distancing and safeguards (face coverings and hand washing) to slow the spread not stop it. Thus not putting any short term pressure on the health care system. (The flatten the curve model)
