I also disagree that you can’t compare Maddison’s fee and a potential fee for Cantwell. Just because Cantwell has done well in our system doesn’t mean he’ll automatically be able to replicate that somewhere else. Maddison had certain skills (direct free kicks, set piece delivery, long range shooting) that would clearly transfer to the PL as they are not division specific.

My reflection is on the market, not the relative ability of norwich players. Clearly it’s true that having PL experience does add significant value to a player, but for me, if I had the choice between signing Maddison with only Championship experience for just over £20m or Cantwell with an excellent half season in the prem for £30m, it would be Maddison every time. And that’s not 20:20 hindsight, he’s not exceeded expectations since going to Leicester, just met them.
