But the guardian has a clear agenda which is to attack the tories at every opportunity just as certain other papers attack labour. That article about the ex Ipswich Mayor is not evidence to me that we are some kind of evil nation. She even admitted she didn’t have the card they usually require as she didn’t know she needed one. I agree they could apply a bit more common sense in responding to applications but I think there is also an agenda behind that story with all the participants or people quoted being active opposition politicians.

As for the lady from Jamaica that’s obviously an unfortunate incident (along with all the other Windrush victims) and I suspect as well she’s fallen victim to attempts to stamp out health tourism introduced around that time. I don’t know what the law says in terms of that situation but you would hope that common sense would prevail. It’s clear it has not done in many cases and in terms of those incidents I agree the authorities have not covered themselves in glory.
