Yes, Berlin has changed a lot in the last 10 years that we've been going...

Around the back streets of Friedrichshain there are still squats with inhabitants attacking the local gentrification from time to time (throwing paint at windows of new apartment blocks going up as one example) but they're being marginalised and pushed out and they know it...

Yesterday we wandered in to a squat that had a gallery and, of course, a bar to gawp at some art. It's interesting that with Hamburg being so racially mixed, and certainly around here the left being so strong, I can only think it'll get naughty if change happens too quickly as being open and welcoming is clearly not only an identity but a point of difference to other German cities...

That said just about anything can change if enough money is waved at it...
