I don’t know why I’m rising to this spoofery but 1) no-one claims any kind of “morally superior” football, that argument died after the Spain World Cup exit in 2014 and 2) the most successful teams play possession based football, either by design or outcome, so it clearly works. Where we differ from this is that we do not currently have an effective striker or strikers, as we did when we had Holt and Martin, maybe Grabban and Jerome as well, and as a result have not made the best of our opportunities.

On a related issue, when other teams boss us possession-wise, we hate it during the game. After games we all say how good the opposition were and how poor we were in comparison. We can’t have it both ways. Under Neil, Adams even, and Lambert, we often dominated possession during games and didn’t always score - I don’t remember anyone bleating on about philosophy and all this back then, unless it was during the great Lol Liga wars. Is it because a foreign manager, speaking not in his first language, used a somewhat loaded word without realising it would be a millstone around his neck and a stick to beat him with when we don’t win the league at a canter? Better bring in Colin or Big Sam then.
