We bought a panasonic 50 incher at Christmas, (£569)

It's great - I'm delighted with it. It makes HD look a lot better as well as being magnificent in 4k and HDR.

My personal view is there probably isn't enough uplift in quality between a £500 TV and a £1k TV to make the price difference worth it.

However, if you can stretch to an OLED, that is worthwhile. I think the chepaest of those is probably around £1,500 and they don't come smaller than 55 inches.
