Wrath TV advice please

I need a new telly, biggish, for the lounge. I'm in the £500-£1,000 bracket, but the choice and different types is bewildering.

You read the reviews and there's always a few people that say every single one is s**t, even the ones that cost £3,000!

Obvs very important that it's good for watching football and other sport.
