the problem isn't spending money on better players and giving them long contract
it is spending a lot of money and giving long term contracts to players who are either very injury prone or not very good.
This has crippled us financially for the forseeable future, because they will be liabilities until their contracts end. In addition to the fact that we wasted around £30m to bring them in. £30m which we will recoup none of.
This is where McNally takes the blame - particularly the poor decisions in that last Prem transfer window - which we are still feeling the effects from now. Spending big money and living to the limit of your balance sheet is fine, but you have to spend most of it well, otherwise it cripples the club financially. Which has happened to us now.
