Part of the problem is that there are different aspects of political literature

Three that come to mind are:
- statements of current fact: there are 100,000 trees in Thetford Forest; these could be verified
- forecasts: in 5 years there will be 120,000 trees in Thetford Forest; the basis of the forecast can be reviewed and disputed, but in many cases there is no real right answer
- policies: we want to cut down all the trees in Thetford Forest; can't be verified and you can't even hold an organisation to the policy as circumstances change.

What this means overall is that it would not be practical for anyone to adjudicate on all aspects of a political document.

Still no excuse for outright misleading claims.
