I agree its avoidable

the FA Cup could have avoided it weeks ago by saying that the 4th English place would go to a) CL winners if not in top 4 and otherwise b) 4th place in Prem. Then the situation would be clear. UEFA's rules specifically allow the FA that flexibility to get CL winners in so UEFA have done their job properly. The FA have screwed things up and shirked their responsibility basically through greed - hoping to force UEFA to give England a money-spinning 5th CL place.
