internets geekerage help/advice required

for over a year now my internet speed has been pretty ropey and bt seem unable to sort it. i've had more engineers than you can shake a stick at and spent yonks on the phone to their "helpdesk" all to no avail. got another engineer headed out on wednesday but don't hold out much hope as btbroadband and bt openreach seem to be like a badly divorced couple. i've even tried going on to bt business but rather than speed it up its slewed it dewn. like to slightly north of the 0.f**kall region

my question is, would a change of provider be a waste of time as all the tinternets comes via bt or are they as s**te as they appear to be and would some other company be better?

any help would be apreciated. thanking you in advance.
