Mainly because

a) Champs League has better teams so more interesting games
b) CL is financially lucrative in the group stages, mainly because of TV revenue, whereas the Europa League group stages actually cost clubs money
c) CL teams coming into the EL after the group stages makes a mockery of the group stages
